Agri-Livestock Consultants Ltd. (ALC) was first registered in 1974 and since 1984, the company has been based in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. From its inception, ALC has provided technical and commercial consulting services to the agricultural, food and rural development sectors world-wide, covering the following areas.
Strengthening of veterinary services
Since 1976, ALC has worked extensively in Central and Eastern Europe and the CIS. A large part of recent activity has involved the strengthening of state veterinary services and preparation for EU Accession. In early 2000 ALC completed the € 4m EU-funded Phare Multi Country Veterinary Diagnosis and Control Project (MCVP). The programme operated in thirteen Central and Eastern European Countries with the objective to upgrade the State Veterinary Services to EU standards. The MCVP was a benchmark project in that it defined the further steps to be taken in preparation for EU accession in the veterinary sector.
Border inspection posts
Another area of ALC specialist expertise is the development of Central and Eastern European border inspection posts (BIPs) to EU standards. This work involves both the veterinary and phytosanitary controls and includes BIP design, construction, operation and training of staff.
Privatisation and restructuring of agro-industrial enterprises
Animal Identification & Registration Systems
Following from the MCVP, which established the standards for I&R systems in the Accession countries and also the standards for epidemiological surveillance and movement control, ALC has established a considerable expertise in this sector. ALC experts have been involved in this field in all Eastern European countries and the company is now considered the leader in this specialism
ALC also has extensive experience in Central and Eastern Europe and the CIS on the privatisation and restructuring of agricultural production and agro-industrial, processing enterprises.
Commercial Agricultural Production, Processing and Marketing
As well as its aid-project implementation and management activities, ALC has been involved in commercial activities in animal and crop production, food processing, and marketing in many developed and developing countries.
